Operation EsperanzaFor 23 years Dr. Thomas Greidanus MD, FRCSC, of the Riverview Rotary Club and his team of doctors, dentists, nurses and volunteers conduct an average of 40 orthopedic operations each year, in Cuenca, Ecuador. This is a huge undertaking with logistics, equipment and 60 team members traveling and committing time and service for those in need with dental work, hip and knee replacement surgeries. These are life-changing surgeries that allow those crippled, to now lead productive lives. |
San Juan De Dios Autoclave ProjectThe Rotary Club of Edmonton Riverview, Alberta, has coordinated donations of ambulances and medical supplies for several years. Together with the Denton Program, a joint effort of various US government departments and agencies, which provides transportation of humanitarian assistance using military aircraft, the Club has delivered fire trucks, ambulances and buses to Belize, Uganda, and Mexico. |

Belize Sewing ProjectRiverview Rotary Club and Roby’s Helping Hands in Belize together were instrumental in getting the project off the ground. There were 11 women learning to sew and become economically self-sufficient and the number is growing. The cooperative sells its products and uses the money to buy more supplies. "It has given the women a taste of what they can do and become independent and provide for their families". The group is making hospital scrubs and school uniforms. Riverview Rotary Club is currently filling a container with material and supplies. Contact Us to donate sewing material or money. |
One Health ScholarshipsThe Riverview Rotary Club has partnered with MGCSC, the Rotary Action Group for Endangered Species and the Rotary Club of Kampala – Uganda to provide 3 One Health Scholarships in Veterinary Medicine in the Congo, Uganda and Rwanda. Like the canary in the coal mine, the health of wildlife is an indicator and tracking of developing diseases that affect humanity. Coronavirus, Tuberculosis, and Ebola are all monitored by specialized doctors in veterinary medicine. The One Health Scholarship trains these specialists which are critical to the preservation of vulnerable, threatened, and endangered species, including the fight against loss of habitat, poaching and conservation and enhancing local community economic development. |

ShredfeastFall 2020 Shredfeast – October 3, 2020, Kingsway Garden Mall northwest parking lot. Bring your shredding. Donations welcome or $10 per box. Partnering with Best Shredding Co., Century 21, Alberta Traffic Supply, Emmanuel Foundation, and Kingsway Garden Mall. Funds raised from this project will support the many youth and senior citizen programs of Riverview Rotary. |
Wheelchair ProjectOver 200 surplus wheelchairs were sent off on another life of service. Together with the Riverview Rotary Club, the Westend Rotary Club, the Grande Prairie Rotary Club and the Emmanuel Foundation, the chairs were shipped to countries in need. |

Adinea School RenovationThe Riverview/Tomebamba partnership resulted in a successful school renovation project that helped Unidad Educativa Especial Adinea provide education to the disadvantaged children. Approximately 95 students from low-income families in and around Cuenca, Ecuador attend the school. These students, who have a wide range of physical and intellectual challenges are unable to attend mainstream schools because of the support they require. |
High School Model United NationsHSMUN High School Model United Nations holds a 3-day conference hosted by the UofA undergrads. 2020 was the 18th annual conference with 578 students participating, from 26 schools. The 2020 conference guest speaker was former Governor Genera Madame Michelle Jean and 5370 District Governor Tracey Vavrek. HSMUN provides students in high school with an educational opportunity to develop a sense of global citizenship and maximize their self-growth. Riverview Rotary is a major contributor towards this conference. |

YONAYONA strives to have a lasting positive community impact by providing free music-centered programming for youth in Northern Alberta’s priority neighborhoods. YONA’s Program Components include: Nutrition, Instrument Time, Break Time, Musicianship, Choral / Movement, Academics, and Expressive Arts. Riverview Rotary is a supporter of YONA and Carl Simonson, is a founder of YONA and former Riverview Club Rotarian. |
Kashojwa Uganda Water ProjectA heartfelt letter from Nelson Byamukama of Uganda. “I am writing to you to bring to your attention about the water project impaction to our village. The Kashojwa Water Project, funded by The Riverview Rotary Club, was to bring down the typhoid cases that had increased to 5 cases of deaths per year in my community mostly in children and the elderly. The water project has solved this crisis and so far for a year and three months since this clean water started running and we have not registered any cases. Don't you think this was done by help of God? Thank you for supporting us on this cause.” |
